Baby’s heads have no hair,
Old men’s heads are just as bare;
Between the cradle and the grave,
Lies a haircut and a shave.

Born and raised in the village of Ghalt, Kalle was the middle sibling of three brothers. Their upbringing was simple and uneventful, but when the eldest came of age he left to join the war. A year later Kalle said farewell to his family expressing his own intentions of joining up. He was well aware that the youngest was desperate to follow in his elder brothers’ footsteps; however Kalle had no wish to fight a war so he lied to his family, reasoning to himself that to lie would be better than to disappoint.
At the age of 15 Kalle stepped out into the wide world on his own. One lure the army did have was that you’d get to see more of the world than the average commoner, but Kalle set his mind to seeing the world without having to fight it too. He had just enough money to get as far as the city of Passage and from there the rest of Khorvaire was within his reach, indeed the rest of Eberron itself!
… Twelve years past by and Kalle Bantam saw precious little of the world in that time. He had, however set up a fairly successful business in Passage and married a beautiful local girl. Eberron could wait; he had a world of his own now.
Kalle Bantam had made quite a name for himself as an accomplished barber, with his own modest barbershop, on the edge of one of the many market squares, catering to many of the local citizens as well as a few visitors to the lake-side city. Kalle Bantam was all set for an uneventful, but fulfilling life in Passage. It was a shame then that he had to flee the city, probably never to return.
Kalle’s wife, he discovered, had been having an affair with one of his regular clients, a high ranking member of the House of Orien based in the city. Kalle took it upon himself to bring the affair to a decisive end. The city watch found Kalle’s wife and the Orien official’s bodies the following day when the barber shop failed to open for business. His throat had been slit cleanly almost from ear to ear, apparently part way through a shave.
A large majority of the inhabitants of Passage worked for, or were affiliated with the House of Orien in some way, and Kalle too had one or two friends in the organisation. Long before the crime had been uncovered he had secured himself safe, cheap and discrete passage on the Lightning Rail out of Passage city. News spreads quickly however, especially when the House of Orien have a personal interest in the spreading. Kalle hadn’t got far before the first Orien ‘employee’ tracked him down.
Through a combination of skill and luck Kalle managed to evade or kill several would-be bounty hunters on his tail, but he didn’t stop running until he’d reached the Endworld Mountains. Dishevelled and distraught he stumbled upon Ghostwater. A far cry from his old life, but at some point you have to stop and take stock…
